You would think God said this AFTER Joshua fought the war and seized the city, but not at all.
As I read through the commonly told story of Jericho and the walls falling down, this struck me differently today. Many of us have heard the story before of Joshua leading the Israelites through the fortified city of Jericho to enter the Promised Land, but I wanna focus on this aspect of the story.
God GIVES VICTORY to Joshua before he has even been given a plan, fought a war, or attempted to win.
Joshua was able to claim the victory before he had even seen it happen.
This didn't mean Joshua was free from fighting. He still had to follow God's seemingly ridiculous and insane plan to attain it: walking around the wall saying nothing for an entire week and then screaming like crazy people and blowing trumpets. But of course God was faithful, and they followed His instructions, and the city was conquered-- the walls literally fell down.
God has given us victory.
Over death, over sin, over apathy, over addiction, over our mistakes, over our pasts, over our temptation, over every battle.
That doesn't mean we're free from fighting. It doesn't mean we still don't have to follow the instructions of His plan. It doesn't mean we will never look crazy, or that sometimes doubt will creep in.
But it should drive us boldly and confidently to fight the battle, because we know that in Him, the victory is already ours. You have to be patient, listen for instructions, walk to it, walk through it, fight for it, and claim it.
In other words, you have to DO something. You have to listen for God's leading. You have to be willing to look foolish. You have to trust Him despite anything else. And when you do, God will break down every single wall that is holding you back and holding you down.
"No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:37
We will overcome
By the blood of the lamb and the Word of our testimony
Everyone overcome
